Elmwood's Intricate Inglenook Fireplace
Built in 1887, Elmwood House is a tribute to the early days of Minneapolis
, Proudly displaying its circular towers with conical roofs on the north
facade, Elmwood has been completely restored to its original appearance.
Replacement of the ceder shingle siding of our Normandy-styled Chateau
was completed in 1992, using nearly 22,000 hand-pounded shingles.
Sunlight
from the Turret Windows Graces the Parlor
The interior has been left virtually unchanged, boasting a parlor filled
with afternoon sun and a living room fully furnished with classical
sofas, antique decorations, a baby grand piano, and restored oak woodwork
throughout. At the south end of the living room, french doors open to
the lawn and gardens. The Inglenook fireplace is a Syrian arch brick
fireplace flanked by oak benches and a lattice work arch. In 1976, Elmwood
House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
